• Human life in the midst of eternal life

The God to whom you pray and all the guides who support each of you are united in surrounding you with a caring heart and a visioning heart that responds to you with openness, vision, strength, and that great Presence.

Each of you in your own ways is in a state of heightened awareness of the reality of transitions, of passages—journeys, we like to think of them as. We think of life and all that life brings as being a journey. That term carries with it a sense of evolving. When you think of the nature of life, the term passage implies something is left behind, something is lost in the process of becoming or being something else. The concept behind life being a journey has no implication of loss, rather life is a process of becoming. It is not closing one door and opening another.

When you consider the changes in life-forms, they are indeed an evolving of life. They’re not a loss. Human life is an evolving, a growing, we speak of discovering—all those concepts have within them an understanding of expansion, not closing off and opening up. We often speak of the pathways of human life and that you are on your path. There is no implication that in moving through that path, you are rejecting and starting anew. You are simply growing. You are exploring. It is a process of life revealing, of life being more illuminated.

When you contemplate what is referred to as an end of life, it is in no way an end. It is a growth, an expansion of vision, and an evolving of spiritual depth. The process of human life has a kind of continuous quality to it, and yet for many, there is the approach that life begins/life ends.

Your life originated in God’s spiritual presence. It has thereby never had a true beginning because your life has always been part of an existence that has never had a start. It is a Presence that has always been. Your life is part of a Presence that will always be.

The nature of human life has changed enormously in the history of your species, but the roots of your human life long predate what is identified as human, and before what can be identified as being prehuman, there was an existence that has always been. Why is there no beginning? There is no beginning because life evolves, it expands and is constantly moving outward.

Science speaks of the Big Bang theory, and there is truth in that Big Bang in as much as it signifies a marker for elements of life that can be identified. It says nothing of the elements of life beyond what you can identify. It says nothing about the existence of spirit. Spirit does not belong to the reality of the Big Bang. Spirit is eternal, and that eternity means not merely an eternity looking forward but an eternity looking backwards. They say that the spirit exists for an eternity, it keeps on living, but too seldom do you think of the eternity of spirit as meaning there was no beginning. It has always existed.

We know these are broad statements that carry within them a concept of an entity with no beginning and no end. If you consider the centrality of spirit that is God as a kind of giant globe, and you slice through that globe in any direction, you will recognize that the edges themselves are continuous. There is no start, no end. You can slice that globe into infinite slices, but they are still maintaining a continuity. There is no point on that slice that you can look at and say that’s where it begins. It just is.

And so it is with the spirit that accompanies human life. The spirit, as it were, is a kind of slice of the reality of God. All that is God is contained in some way or another with the slice, with you. Of course, you are only a small component of the totality of God, but your soul has within it the characteristics that come from God.

Human life, therefore, can be considered a small segment of the perimeter of that slice of God. The segment may appear to have a beginning and an end, but it is really part of the entirety which has no beginning and no end. In your human lives, you traverse that perimeter. Your paths carry you in many different directions, and yet despite the differences in length and thickness and color and all kinds of characteristics, that segment of the perimeter belongs to that perimeter, and the perimeter and all that is contained within it belong to God’s presence.

When you observe the life of another, you observe what can be experienced through your senses, but your senses are quite limited. You know of the senses of animals around you that allow them to perceive what you cannot hear, see, feel, touch. There are other energies that some life-forms respond to that humans are incapable of responding to, and yet even though you cannot directly point to some aspects of those differing energies, they are nevertheless real. Nevertheless, they have purpose. There is meaning. There is impact.

And so it is with human life. Your perceptions of life are hugely limited. The temptation is to believe that only what you know or know of exists. The reality is far greater than that. Part of that unseen, unfelt reality is an awareness of the infinite existence that each of you shares in common. You are all on that sphere. You all are part of that globe. Your experience of life is part of the story, but there is much more. Human life is there for a process of revealing, of evolving. It is that journey. Nothing is lost. There is no point at which you can say in human terms “you have arrived,” just as there is no point in human life where one can say one has full understanding of anything. There is always more.

This journey of the spirit is continuous. There is a consciousness that accompanies the journey, for the journey of the soul is one of growth as well. Without consciousness, there is no growth. You are not aware of earlier growth experiences. Yes, there are some who feel they have a sense of a previous life, but the life that they may indeed have a feel for is a small fragment of the true Life.

Your lives are part of this continuum. Your evolution of spirit was in full force before human life and will be in full force after human life, and that growth, therefore, means that there is consciousness. There is awareness. There is a recognition that you exist at all times. There is no point in your lives where suddenly you are aware. There is no point in your lives where suddenly there is no awareness. The nature of that awareness may change, but it always is present. You’re not aware of life before you were born, new life after conception. You have no sense of that experience, but that does not mean that experience didn’t exist. It is only that you become aware that you were aware, but that fundamental awareness extends in all directions independent of time, independent of the nature of how you live, whether in human or in spirit form. The awareness is there. The growth is there. The sensitivity is there.

Human life is to be cherished. The journey has meaning, for without a purpose the journey would be devoid of any meaning. That purpose is the evolution, it is the opening. The purpose is the expansion of heart vision. That purpose is becoming more aware of the true meaning of being present. That purpose is beginning to understand what nonjudgmental love really means.

The pursuit of nonjudgmental love is lifelong. There are those who claim they have achieved it. While they may be aware of significant growth in that regard, true enduring nonjudgmental love is a process in human life. It is not a goal that is reached within your form of living. When you are with those whose awareness of the boundaries of human life are becoming more easily recognized, it is important to focus your heart’s vision on the continuity that we speak of, the continuity of spirit, the continuity of consciousness, the continuity of the journey, the continuity of discovery, of revelation, the continuity of understanding, the continuity of recognizing that all are indeed one.

You are indeed one with God. You are one with each other. You are one in spirit. You are one in the capability of becoming more loving. You are one when you give of yourself. You are one when you are fully present. You are one when you pursue nonjudgmental love. You are one when you affirm the sacredness of human life. You are one when you accept the beauty of the journey.

You are blessed in your understanding of the journey. You are blessed in your seeking. You are blessed in your giving to one another. You are blessed in the peace that you feel when you are in the presence of all others.
