• God as an interconnected reality in which all belong to one another

It is the completeness of God’s presence that you are slowly beginning to be aware of if not fully understand. We would like to turn your attention to this sense of completeness, knowing that we are not speaking of a single entity that is omnipotent. We are, rather, speaking of God as an interconnected reality in which all belong to one another.

The completeness that is God could be described in part by saying you and another person and the smallest particle of existence are all connected and are all fully equal and fully a part of this web of interconnectedness. In terms of the greatness of God, there is no distinction between the smallest particle and everything that you see with your senses and everything you know of in the universe. There’s no meaningful distinction. You speak of the need for human beings to be more responsive to the environment, but the environment is not some kind of external reality that you reach out and try to grasp, for you are the environment and the environment is you. All that exists is contained in some form or another within you.

Science makes a case for explaining life on earth in terms of elements in a physical universe, emphasizing that the foundation for such life is fully dependent upon the reality that exists at great distances within the physical universe that you recognize. We could say, therefore, that your existence is possible for the same and through the same energies as the most distant stars and galaxies. You are connected, and if you are connected to what exists in these unfathomable distances in the universe, you are even more aware of the possibility of being connected to all that you observe in human form.

Just as there are many forms of appearance between beings, and yet you are still human, there are many forms of what you observe in life that all belong to the same reality. We speak often of the oneness of creation, but all of that creation is part of the reality of what God is. You consider the spiritual connection between two people. That was part of your discussion. That connection was indeed the presence of spirit. It was a glimpse of that sacred thread that connects each person to all others. That thread is part of this totality of what you refer to as God.

Even though it is tempting to try to humanize God’s presence, it is still important to recognize that God’s connection to all things is more intense than the connection that is experienced between two people or between communities and nations. It helps, of course, to think of this totality that is God as almost a humanlike existence, because it is only in that way of conceiving such a reality that you can feel a real personal connection.

We can say with absolute truth that God cares. We can say that God knows each person, not as a physical entity but as a presence. We speak often of God’s love, and it is a love, but it is far more expansive than any human definition of love. And yet, if you seek only to have a full understanding of God’s love, and acknowledge that such full understanding is beyond the human capacity, it would be easy to ignore it. But in so doing, you would be missing a part of that reality which does have real meaning.

We say you are loved by God. We are not saying you are just seen, so to speak, by God. It’s not that God is merely aware that you exist. But this intertwining network of love that we have described to include nonhuman, knowing life-forms works through the presence of a loving, caring, supporting, strengthening, and affirming energy.

When you consider love between two people, you are talking about a kind of energy. However that might be expressed, it is still an energy which is felt, which has impact, which has meaning. It is still energy. The fact that it is energy does not take away the impact that love has.

When you consider the fullness, the greatness, the completeness that is God, you are still referring to an energy, but it is not an uncaring, impersonal energy any more than this loving energy between people is just some kind of attribute of energy masses. It is felt. It is offered. It is experienced. And so it is with this more complete understanding of the loving network that together is God.

There is a center, of course. It is a center that radiates this energy of love in all directions, and that energy is a central component of everything that exists. Such energy is not limited to human life-forms. It is not limited to anything that grows physically. It belongs to all that exists because all that exists together is that single entity that is God.

When you connect to another in a loving way, you are activating your receptors that acknowledge the expression of that love. It may be a love offered through prayer. It may be a love between individuals who have never met. But that relationship begins with care, with concern, with an acknowledgment of a connection that binds all together.

In your interrelationships with others, you, of course, experience times of tragedy, of suffering, of actions which are seen as negative or destructive, and you wonder how to respond. If you are all connected in this wonderful network of loving energy, what response can be offered in the face of darkness?

Most importantly, what you can do is to acknowledge another’s life as having meaning beyond what another may recognize. It is not for you to determine what that life meaning is, but it is for you to acknowledge that there is meaning. No life is without meaning. No life exists in a random set of occurrences. You have your own pathway to follow, and you acknowledge that, but you must also acknowledge that someone seemingly consumed by darkness also has a path that ultimately leads to the same goal or conclusion as yours.

All pathways are different. Some may be clear to observe from a distance. Others may be clouded and your vision impaired. But all human beings have value. All human beings are graced by the same loving, connected network of spiritual ties that belong to the totality that is God.

It is often said showing kindness to another is showing kindness to God. It is a simple statement that can be understood in simplified terms. But the greater truth is that you embrace another’s life because you are embracing the God that belongs to that life. You are embracing the sacredness of another. By acknowledging that sacredness and keeping that reality before you, your responses to others who seem to exist in darkness will be a response of light.

Approach those whose behavior and beliefs seem so strongly opposed to your own and concentrate on their sacredness, not necessarily what is said or what is done, but moving beyond those words and deeds, and embracing in your heart vision what is sacred, embracing your bonds that connect you to another, that thread, that sacred connection that brings all to this singleness, this greatness of the loving Center that you refer to as God.

You are merely asked to love. You are not asked to agree. You are not asked to disagree. Those are human reactions, but the spiritual reaction is to love. When you see another through love, through a loving heart, you find strength. You discover patience. You travel with peace. You reach out in spirit with faith. You allow yourself to truly see another.

It is the same approach that you direct to yourself. When you judge self and feel guilt or shame or profound regret, that judgmental approach stands in the way of perceiving self with love, with patience, with care. Seeing yourself with love is not setting yourself apart, is not placing yourself above. It is not empowering yourself over something or someone. Seeing yourself in love opens the vision so that you can more clearly see the thread connecting you to everything.

If you wish to praise God, praise what is God in another. That is the connection that you strengthen as you evolve as a loving energy, and it is through that effort that you open yourself more fully to that magnificent presence that is the fullness, the wholeness, the completeness that is God.

We rejoice in a spiritual sense when you see the sacredness in another, when you see the sacredness in yourself, when you see the sacredness in all, whether animate or inanimate, when you see the sacredness of distant galaxies, when you see the sacredness of the smallest particle, when you see the sacredness of all universes of spirit. And seeing that, you truly see God.
