• Human beings, the Spirit Center, and God

• How guides’ understanding of God differs from humans’

It is the Spirit Center that you pray to, and that is the source of all that exists. We speak so often of Spirit Center as if it were a kind of entity that is in some different location and somehow removed from where you are. You often perceive Spirit Center as being something else from who or what you are, but it is essential that you grow to feel that the Spirit Center is actually a part of who you are. You are a part of that reality. We speak of God as the Spirit Center, but we also see you as the Spirit Center, for the Center itself is undefined. There is not a kind of defined limit where one can say, “This is the Spirit Center, but over here it is not the Spirit Center.” The reality is that center of all souls is comprised of all that exists. The Spirit Center is all-inclusive.

When you open yourself to the Spirit Center, you are opening yourself to yourself, and you are opening yourself to your neighbor, figuratively speaking. A perfect stranger that you encounter is as much the Spirit Center as you are or as you often think of God as a specific and defined entity.

How is it that you are a part of that Spirit Center, and what does it mean for you? Your soul extends far beyond the physical body. Your soul has an existence that far exceeds your understanding, and this spiritual component to who you are is connected permanently to the spirit, to the soul of all, connected in a way that it exists as a complete and limitless entity. Your spiritual self is not further away than the closest distance between the cells in your body. Just as your cells are connected to one another and belong to an entity that you see in human form, so are the souls of all others equally connected and form the entity that is referred to as the Spirit Center. It is a single entity. It is limitless in its energy, in the energy that radiates in all directions.

This connection is a connection not unlike what can be described as a conversation between two people. There is the act of speaking and the act of listening. There is an exchange of those energies. There is a communication through those energies, and for the time that such a conversation is taking place, those two people exist as one.

If we consider that exchange of energy between people in conversation, we make that analogy to your connection to the souls of all. That spiritual presence that presides within you is what comprises the Spirit Center, and that connection is filled with as many different ways of interaction as the variety of subjects that can be engaged in between two people. It is a dynamic relationship that changes its form, its scope, its nature constantly. Your connection with the souls of others is a fluid connection. There are no boundaries. There is only this flowing connection, this flowing energy, this flowing exchange, and because all souls are connected in this way, whatever impacts one soul impacts all souls.

If someone is in pain and agony, the response to that affliction is universal. For an individual going through such torment, being open to the responses of others is a way of becoming aware of that universal response to suffering. If you injure a toe, the whole body is aware of that injury, and the body responds. If a soul finds itself in conflict through its attachment to the human form, the spiritual center, the Spirit Center, God responds immediately. The body doesn’t prevent the toe from being injured. The toe was not designed not to be injured, but the toe is a part of the totality of that body, and therefore the body responds accordingly.

That response is not something which is spontaneously created. It responds because of its design. It is designed so that the energy of response is there immediately. It is the natural response. It is not a kind of spiritually manufactured response at the moment. That is its normal behavior.

The response of all souls, the response of the Spirit Center is the natural response of the Center. It is how the Center is created. Your soul was created to be aware of the needs of other souls. Your soul was created with the capability of response and being “present.”

So, when we say that if you pray for comfort, God, the Spirit Center, does not suddenly leap into action, for the response of the Spirit Center, the response of God, is there, is present, because that is what the Spirit Center is. The Spirit Center contains all that is meant by peace, so when there is an outcry for peace, the presence of that peace is already there. That peace is activated by all souls around the world and beyond the world as you know it. That peace exists beyond the universe that you know. That peace is what is shared by all.

The Spirit Center, therefore, or God is comprised of all that is. The souls that contain these activities of spirit are fully developed and are present not only in the souls of human beings. That energy is present in all that exists whether animate or not. That energy contains in its reality all that is needed. Its expression may be different, but it is comprised of all the energy that is appropriate.

We speak of balance—balance as a way of understanding health. Often we say when you pray for health, you are really praying for balance. But that sense of balance is a kind of equilibrium of energy, and achieving that equilibrium of energy requires movement, requires a movement of matters of energy, and that energy is then applied in whatever way is best.

We have talked about the injuries that you may feel emotionally at the hands of others, and we say that it is not God’s will that you be harmed by others, but it is part of who you are being human that you are sensitive to your environment, whether natural or human. It is that sensitivity, the energy of that sensitivity that can be the basis for your being receptive to the energies of balance provided by others and the energies of balance that you offer to another.

That fact that you offer yourself to another and that you are open to the offerings of another to yourself are the same energies expressed differently that are found even in a rock. The rock responds to the environment around it. The rock may be created from forms of energy before it became a rock, and the energies that it has can impact what is nearby or far away. That impact may be observed as heat or cold. That energy is also an energy of being the emitters of light that you see. That energy is also a gravitational energy. There are many expressions of that energy that interact around the rock, but that interaction with its surroundings, although expressed differently, shares the same reality as your interaction with what surrounds you. In this way, you and the rock are the same.

The energies that you have belong to that entity we speak of as the Spirit Center, and it is because of your shared energies and the flow of those energies, that you both can be identified as belonging to the Spirit Center, and because you belong to the Spirit Center, you are fully participating in the energy of that Spirit Center. Since we refer to the Spirit Center as God, we can also say that the rock and you are God. You belong to that entity.

The toe that is injured is very much a part of you as a hand or an arm or your eyes or heart. They all belong to who you are. It is for this reason that we affirm the statement that you are God, your neighbor is God, the stranger you meet is God, and the person whom you have never met or seen or even know about is God. It is that combined energy that unites all that exists, that contains the responses you pray for.

When you look for God, grasp the stone, pick up the rock, and recognize what you have in common. Recognize how that other entity shares in its way with the life you experience in human form. By extension, consider the planets you know of, and try to imagine the universes of which you know nothing, and accept the reality that all are indeed one. All share the energies of balance, of a flow of response that is shared by everything that exists. When you allow yourself to consider the vastness and the minuteness of creation, you are on your way to acknowledging the true meaning of Spirit Center.

It is, of course, part of human life to seek to ascribe human emotions to such an energy presence. You wish to feel that God is loving and cares for everything. That is always a matter of semantics and tradition, but if you think for a moment, loving and caring is a way of achieving a balance, a sense of healing, a sense of being settled, a sense of rightness. That is fine, but that rightness, that flow, that achieving of healing is because of your being open to all these expressions of balance, expressions of a sense of proportion.

You are fully aware of chaos in society, and you pray for elimination of such turmoil. You are in practice praying for a kind of equilibrium where tension and imbalance cease to exist, and life can go on smoothly. But that wish for equilibrium, a kind of moral balance, is not unlike the balance of planets that rotate around a single entity. That is a balance of forces that keeps something in orbit. That balance is the natural tendency.

Despite what others feel, chaos is not the natural tendency, but clearly chaos exists, and part of the actions of energy, part of the actions of the Spirit Center, part of the actions of God is the transformation of what may be chaotic to be becoming more balanced, more in equilibrium. So that desire to find a balance, the tendency, the natural movement of all that exists to find resolution is a kind of activity that humans prefer to attach terms such as love.

God is energy. God is a presence because of that energy. You are present because you belong to that energy. You are moved through life as a process of resolving, a process of finding balance, peace, and equilibrium in many different ways. When you are open to what is natural in life rather than being consumed by what you currently experience, you will begin to move in harmony with these natural forces that aim for a dissolution of chaos and disorder.

There is a component of this energy that implies that the energies that exist in all of creation are not random. There is an entity of sorts that exists within this unified presence of energy that serves to organize, that serves to regulate, that creates a reality toward which all move, and this entity, this component of energy, is the kind of binding material that joins all expressions of energy together. This union of energies is not accidental. It exists because of a central unifying presence, and that presence is an energy of itself, but it is part of this Spirit Center that you refer to as God.

We’d like to explain that what we refer to as God is this overall presence, and this overall presence is much more than the energies of all that unite, and yet it envelops, it encloses, it embraces this interdependence of the spirit. When you think of Spirit Center, you think also of God. We speak of the Spirit Center on our plane, and we speak of God as a presence that embraces the Spirit Center. So, our sense of God is a very different level from the human approach to God, and yet for your understanding of God, it certainly suffices to consider the Spirit Center and God as the same.

Those of us who live in spirit-form see God in a very different way. We recognize the evidence of God because we recognize the truth of the unity of all that exists, and we recognize the energy that unites all that exists. In recognizing that Spirit Center, it is our way of helping you to see God in another because it is the result of God’s presence that the energy that surrounds you contains all that is needed in human life. The energy that surrounds you enables you to draw upon the strengths of others and to offer your strength to others. It is the energy around you that permits the interrelationships, the interactions, that are so important for human beings. When you see God in another, you are seeing the evidence of what God has created in another. When another sees God in you, they see what God has created in you that reflects the reality of God. You have the opportunity of being God’s response, and others have that same opportunity because of this interconnection of all that exists.

So, we say in general you are seeing God in another because you see what God has created in another. We see God at another level, one that has created this interdependence, this interrelationship, this commonality of all that exists, this capacity to serve, and this vulnerability to be served.

So often we speak of the difficulty of human beings in understanding who God is, and as your guides, we wish to reflect an understanding of God that is comprehensible and has meaning and impact. At a point when you exist in purely spiritual form, you will experience the reality of God in a much different means than your experience of God in human life, but it is undeniable God exists in everything and everyone around you.

Open your heart. Open your spiritual vision and recognize that brilliance of God’s light. Let that light from whatever source you find it illuminate your pathway and lead you to peace, a balance of spirit.

Amen.
