Acting in a godly fashion.
June 13, 2001
God is with each of you, surrounding you with great loving hands that bring comfort and support, warmth, strength, and clarity of vision. You are indeed with your guides and the souls of loved ones who have transitioned.
We wish to speak to you more about love. It is often that the subject of love occupies a central theme for these times when we are focused as a group of spirits on both sides of the divide. Too seldom do people understand what love is really about. Indeed, it is almost reasonable to pose the question, “Why love at all?” What we wish to bring to your awareness is a greater understanding, not of what love is, but why, for there is a beginning in the process of love, and that beginning must be centered around its purpose. When one understands the purpose of love, the many forms that love takes are so much more comprehensible to everyone.
The beginning of the Bible refers to the emergence of light. In the beginning there was light. The light actually preceded the darkness. But before the light, there was love. If it is possible to reduce God’s reality to a single concept, it is quite simply love. Without love, nothing that has been created could possibly exist, for it is out of the existence of a godly love that light exists. It is because of the existence of love that there is darkness, for without light, there is no shadow. Light does not need a shadow. The shadow only exists when there is light, and therefore it is out of love, a godly love, that light was created. All that is is a result of the impact of light. There are organisms that thrive in the darkness, but they do not thrive alone. They thrive in the company of that which has been created by light.
Light comes from love. Light is actually a physical representation of love. Love is an energy. Love has an energy of its own. That energy generates further energy. Light is energy, but where did that energy come from? It came from the energy created from love. All energy emanates from this original love. It is a far more profound and pronounced love than the love that exists between people. It is a love that is filled with compassion, with joy, and with energy, positive energy. Love is a manifestation of spiritual energy. The energy of your soul is shared with that coming from all souls. That is the energy of God. You might also try to imagine this energy as an absolute joy of creation, a joy that leads to creation.
God is energy, but it is energy in a very personal sense, an energy that thrives on creation, on facilitating evolution, of providing, of supporting. It is an energy that generates knowledge, scientific efforts, artistic efforts. It is an energy that fuels everything that exists, but this energy can be described in the simplest of terms as a very pure love. So, love, as we speak of it, was responsible for the creation of all that exists. As a result, it is something that is shared by all that exists. In this sense, love is shared among inanimate objects. It is obviously not a human form of love, but it is a created energy that is passed on from the very beginning to all subsequent generations of life.
Sometimes we refer to a stone and its importance. It is inanimate in human terms, but the stone has a life of its own. It is not a thinking process, but it nevertheless has a life. There is energy in the stone. The stone can transfer energy. Heat a stone and it continues to produce heat. Why is that? It is because of the energy contained within the stone itself. It may not produce the heat, it may not originate the heat, but it carries it outward from itself. This energy of the stone is not unlike the energy of the human life-form or the energy found in plant life. That energy is part of this primordial energy that created all that is.
Love, then, is the expansion and transmission of energy. It begins with God, and it carries itself outward to the entirety of creation. Why, then, love in human form? Why is it so important, and what does it affect? It obviously affects all other human beings, but it affects most importantly your relationship with the entire world that surrounds you. There is a kinship that binds humans with all other energy forms that you observe, whether animate or inanimate. You all share the same basic properties of energy. There is nothing that lies outside the field of that God-centered power, that energy. Every component is an important piece of the entire field.
You love because you are loved. The individual who loves you is able to express that and affect that love because that person has also been loved. When you keep going back to where this all began, there is only one source, and that is God by whatever name you wish to use.
Why love? Because that is what unites everything. Without it, you separate yourself from reality. You remove yourself from the world around you. Love is quite simply the necessary bond that connects all to one another. That is an enormous creation emanating from a simple truth. Why do you reach out in compassion to another? Because there is nothing that separates you from another. Why are you concerned about the environment? Because you see the connection between the environment and your own survival. You see the interrelationship of everything. You do not express compassion or passion just because it is considered the necessary thing to do. When you are compassionate, you are compassionate because you have experienced compassion, and because you are particularly and consciously connected to the energy that unites you with another.
When you seek silence and attempt to be open to God, you allow yourself the opportunity of being open to the union that exists between you and everything else. When you sense that union, that common energy, your relationships with others and with your environment, animate and inanimate, take on the most appropriate characteristics. The selfish person does not see his or her connection to the world in a clear view. It is not for the world to support you; it is for you to support the world. It is for you to support the environment. It is you who must give importance and dignity to creation. It is you who reflect love, that primordial energy that created all. You are a part of that energy. You are not separate from it in any way. All human beings are a part of that energy, and therefore you and all other human beings are really the same.
You think of your differences, those differences that separate individuals, races, nationalities. Those differences are only in appearance. There is no difference between you and any other human being. You experience joy and sadness, pain. You experience all emotions. Perhaps those emotions are shared at different points in your journey as human beings, but there is nothing that you feel that is not also experienced at some point and at some level by every other human being. Recognizing this, there is no alternative than being loving. There is no alternative to being respectful. There is no alternative to being compassionate. There is no alternative to giving, for you are contributing in that way to the strength of the whole. You are returning the love which generated your own existence, and that return encourages future creation.
We have often spoken of the unity of all life, but it is important to recognize that that unity comes not only from sharing the fact of being created but comes from the reality that you are all coming from a single source of energy. Don’t make the mistake of thinking if God is energy, then God must be some kind of inanimate presence that really cannot hear prayers, that really cannot heal, that really cannot comfort, for God can do and does all of these things. Although God is energy responsible for creation, that energy is experienced on a human scale as love, as caring, as compassion, and it is for you in your human form to reflect that love, that originating love in your own life.
Why love? There is no meaning to life without it. Life has no significance. Remove love, the energy of love, the binding force of love, and there is nothing. The statement “God is love” is enormously profound and yet understood on the simplest of concepts. It is easy to think “God is love” means God is like the love between people, but the love which is used to characterize God goes far beyond the human form of love. The form that you know is only a small reflection of the energy that belongs solely to God but which you share in small measure with all.
Being compassionate, being loving become natural behaviors. You do not learn to become compassionate; you allow yourself to be compassionate. You do not learn to be loving; you allow yourself to be loving. You do not learn the right path to follow; you allow yourself to follow the path that is there. You do not learn to be understanding; you allow yourself to be understanding. You do not learn to be creative; you allow yourself to be creative. There is a big difference, for learning implies something new. Allowing yourself to be, to do, is connecting yourself with an energy that is already there. When you act toward another in a godly fashion, it is not because you learned how to live in a godly fashion, but rather that you allowed yourself to be led in a godly fashion. The power, the energy of love, is constant. It is always present and for that reason you can allow yourself to reach your highest potential to reflect God in your life.
You don’t learn to listen to God; you allow yourself to listen. It is not something you initiate. Learning implies you’re beginning a process. But the truth of primordial love is that it need not be started. It is not a skill that one gradually achieves. It is merely an opening to what is already there. By acknowledging the importance of love, you are opening yourself to its presence. By opening yourself, you are illuminating your soul. You’re giving meaning to human life. That is why there is love. How you choose to express that in your life is a very individual matter. No two people express what is already there in the same way, but all expressions are valid. All expressions are important. They are meaningful. There is purpose in them.
Human love between people expressed in countless ways is really the manifestation of being open to that which is already there. It would sound preposterous for you to say that you invented us, for we are already there. You open yourself to our presence. Likewise, you do not invent love. You do not invent compassion. You do not initiate compassion. You allow compassion that exists to be brought into your own awareness. You allow compassion to nourish the soul. You allow us to nourish your vision, for we are constant. We are always here.
The spiritual guide is nothing more or less than a continuation of the initial love that generated what is. We are not limited by physical bodies. We are not limited by time. We are not limited by strength. We are in no way limited, and we are in no way restricted. You are restricted by the limitations of the body. In time, those restrictions are no more, and you are free to be fully connected with the essence of what love is.
Our prayers are for your growth through love, not that you become loving, but that you allow yourself to take in love. When you take in what is there, being receptive, allowing yourself the luxury of silence, and letting happen what happens, it is a means of being open. You are blessed in your efforts for openness.
You are blessed in your growing understanding of what already is. You are blessed in your vision of a life far beyond what you can sense through hearing, seeing, and touching.
Go forward in your life open to all that you meet. Take in life in its abundance. Grow in your understanding. Rejoice in the blessings of God’s tender hands upon your souls. Reach upward to the ever-present light and give thanks.
Amen.
