The heart is the bridge to the soul.

The Spirit of God accompanies and illuminates your travels throughout your lives. That presence, that illumination, accompanies your travels throughout your many lives. We say many, not to imply that each of you has countless human lives, but the paths that you are on carry with them multiple lives, many of which are not at all in human form.
We think of ourselves also as being alive, because life in whatever form implies connection. It doesn’t mean that there is an association with every form of life that you experience that can be equated to human awareness, for there are moments in your lives as individuals when you may not be consciously aware of God. It takes no imagination to accept the fact that the stone along a busy highway is unaware of God, for such awareness is not the objective of that stone. That stone, however, exists because it is the consequence of many life-forms.
We can say that the nucleus of a chemical is alive. The nucleus is not aware of God, but the nucleus does have a connection to all that surrounds it, and the totality of what surrounds it contributes to its purpose, its purpose within the realm of all that God truly is. One does not need to have a formal acknowledgment of God in order to be considered alive. The trees don’t identify a god, but they are infinitely and intimately attached to all that is around them.
We talk about life-forms, and that is a very inclusive term. It does not imply many life-forms which are all aware of God, but rather life-forms that mean a relationship with something else. That relationship may be a response to light. It may be a response to heat. It may be the consequence of previous animate life. It may be the consequence of previous inanimate life. It may be the consequence of other bodies in the universe that you identify as being the universe.
There are other life-forms that you cannot see. There is the life-form of magnetism. You see its effect, but you don’t see it. You know it exists because you see evidence of it existing and not because of seeing the magnetism in a very direct and immediate way. Magnetism is a form of life because it relates in its own way.
The human form of life is unique within your own observable world, for it has certain characteristics that you associate with all human life, but you need to broaden your willingness and awareness to accept that there are countless forms of life. There are countless entities and elements of life that exist in some kind of a relationship with something else. Plants respond to light. They respond to moisture. They respond to temperature. They respond to chemicals in the air. They respond to the energy that you surround them with merely by your acknowledgment that they exist.
Human life is only one part of what we refer to as life-forms. There are forms of life that are aware of a power that you identify as God, and yet those forms do not exist on the surface of the earth that you identify as a home within the universe as you know it—the universe that you identify, that you study, that you see with your telescopes, that you see with various forms of radiation that can produce visual representations. There are forms that live beyond what you can measure and yet are a part of your universe. There are many universes, and they all have an impact on one another. What you refer to as a universe does not exist in the absence of other such entities.
The reality quite simply put is that the vastness of what you call God extends far beyond your comprehension, far beyond your vision, far beyond any capabilities of fully grasping its extent. Despite this vastness, each human being plays an important role in the creation that is God. We can say not only “God is and you are,” but we can say two other things: “God is because you are” and also “you are because God is.” There is an interdependence that serves to bind all together.
We exist in spirit-forms because you are, and you exist in human form in part because we are. You and we exist in a profound embrace in which both you and we are in all ways fully one. We’re not separated from you. We don’t exist in a different location that you are somehow able to communicate with. We are closer to you than your skin. We are closer to you than your heart. We are closer to you than your mind. We are closer to you than any of your organs. We are closer to you than your thoughts, than your vision, than your sense of touch. We’re closer to you than what you can hear or taste or feel.
You and we are a single unit, and it’s because of that singleness of existence that you can hear us and we can be aware of you. It is because of this closeness that we can speak to you about the meaning of human life, about the impact of spirit life, about the connections you have with all that you can see and all that remains unseen. There is no magic here. There is a sharing of wisdom. There is a sharing of the energy of spirit.
When we talk about heart, we speak, as you have identified, in part literally, but what you say about a figurative sense of heart does not fully describe what is happening. Each of you has light. Each of you is a form of energy. Each of us consists of light and other forms of energy. Energy always interacts in one way or another. Energy can bring together; energy can separate. Energy can create an understanding; that energy can foster misunderstanding. How does this seeming dichotomy of understanding and misunderstanding possibly get resolved? How can there be a sense of what truth really is? It is in fact through the heart.
We say that the heart is a bridge, but that bridge is also a very concrete, clear, existent band that unites you and us. It is not a physical band, but it is a band of energy, and when you are open to our presence, those energies come together. One form of energy enhances another. Both forms are capable of giving meaning to one another.
You are aware in a personal way of our impact on your lives, but you may be less aware of your impact in our lives. We grow through your receptivity to our presence. We grow of course through all that we do on your behalf, even when you are not aware of it. But our growth is greatly enhanced through your acceptance of our existence. This mutual sharing of the path is experienced most profoundly through the heart. The heart is the fundamental connection, the fundamental bridge, between your own consciousness and the reality of all that truly exists.
The heart is a kind of channel. It channels energy. It provides energy. It receives energy. You understand the heart’s function as being in part electrical, but there is more to the function of the heart than the electrical impact upon the rest of the body. Centuries ago there was no awareness of electricity and thereby no awareness of the electrical capacity of the heart, but that lack of awareness did not change the reality of what was there. There is much more that comes from the heart than what human beings can observe through the most sophisticated of means. The heart, of course, is essential to life, but the heart is that bridge that helps you feel a meaning to life, a meaning to existence. The heart provides a way to interact with what is provided to you through your senses.
We speak of the heart in figurative terms because it is the symbol of love. We are not speaking of the heart as it may appear on cards but of the organic importance of its presence in life. When you say to someone that you love them, and you wish to give that statement meaning, you may say it comes from the heart. There is much more truth in that statement than you can possibly imagine, for the energy that is sent forward from you toward another when you profess faith from the heart is an energy which is not an energy only of thoughts, but there are other forms of energy that come into play, and those forms of energy come not from the extremities of the body but from its core region, the centrality of what you are, human beings.
The heart also serves as a symbol, of course, but symbols have no meaning unless there is some kind of connection between symbol and fact. Symbols are not just chosen out of the empty air. Symbols are not just accidents. Symbols are created and acknowledged because there is an energy that illuminates that recognition, that connection.
It is not by accident that so many generations and so many cultures refer to the heart, as you observed in your gathering. That’s not a coincidence. There is a consistency that is driven by an energy that you cannot see. When in the future you refer to passions of the heart or loving in heart-felt ways, you are in your way acknowledging that centrality.
The heart is the bridge to the spirit, to the soul, but the energy that comes from the heart is similar to energy that comes from thoughts. Individuals have very different thoughts, and those thoughts can take forms that are felt as words, but the energy that comes from the heart binds you in ways beyond your vision to all that exists everywhere.
You are blessed as you consider the meaning of the heart and its association with the furthest galaxies, with the countless universes, with the closest neighbor, and with one that you embrace. That energy between the heart and all that is is a kind of highway with which we are able to communicate with you. The guidance that each of you receives, however that is experienced, comes to you through the highway of the heart.
You are blessed as you give that highway your loving and caring and nurturing acknowledgment. You are blessed when you are open to the highway of others, those whose journey of their own is guided and given direction by the highway of their hearts. Each of you can rest in the peace that comes from the heart. It is your connection to God. It is your connection to spirit, and that connection is always there. That bridge is never broken. That energy can only strengthen and illuminate ever beyond your thoughts, your awareness, and the love that you feel.
We feel blessed when you open yourselves to that highway of the heart. Be comforted by it, be guided by it, be energized by it, be rested by it, and for that highway we all give thanks.
Amen.
